Accenture MxDR Quick Start Guide for Netgate pfSense
This quick start guide will help Accenture MxDR customers configure Netgate pfSense to send logs to the Log Collection Platform (LCP).

Configuring Netgate pfSense
Device Configuration Steps:
Login into pfSense GUI with admin credentials.
2. Change Global Log settings as guided below :
Navigate to the General Logging Options under Status > System Logs > Settings tab
Select/Tweak the following options on this page
a. Log Message Format - syslog (RFC 5424, with RFC 3339 microsecond-precision timestamps)
b. Log Packets from Default Block Rules - Checked
c. Log Packets from Default Pass Rules - Checked
d. Log Packets from Block Bogon Networks Rules - Checked
e. Log Packets from Block Private Networks Rules - Checked
3. Click Save to store the new settings.
Send Firewall logs to LCP by following the below steps :
Navigate to Remote Logging Options from Status > System Logs on the Settings tab.
Select/Tweak the following options on this page.
Enable Remote Logging - Checked
Source Address - Keep it Default reflected value as “Any“
IP Protocol - Not required if Source Address is selected as Default value.
Remote Log servers - Provide LCP IP.
Remote Syslog Contents - Firewall Events
3. Click Save to store the changes.
LCP Configuration Parameters
Table 1-2: The Netgate pfSense event collector (Syslog -4006) properties to be configured by MxDR are shown in the table.

Protocol | UDP | The default protocol for syslog. The collector can also accept logs in TCP.

Port | 514 | The default port for UDP. For TCP, the default port is 601.

Signatures | filterlog | MxDR recommended signatures processed by the Netgate pfSense event collector. |
