Accenture MDR Quick Start Guide for Symantec VIP

This quick start guide will help Accenture MDR customers configure Symantec VIP to send logs to the Log Collection Platform (LCP).

Configuring Symantec VIP

Configure the syslog server settings to enable a remote server to send events to the LCP.

To configure Symantec VIP v8.3 - v9.3, follow the steps below.

  • Specify the Remote Syslog Server

  • Enable Logging for Validation Events

  • Enable Logging for VIP EG Console Events

  • Enable Logging for Self Service Portal Events

  • Enable Logging for VIP Manager Events

  • Enable Logging for LDAP Sync Events

Specify a Remote Syslog Server

  1. Navigate to VIP Enterprise Gateway Console > Configuration Console, and go to Gateway > Optional.

  2. Under Configure Advanced Log Settings, click Syslog Settings.

  3. Type the IP address of the remote syslog server.

  4. Click Save to save the configuration.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for Validation Events

  1. Open the Validation tab.

  2. Edit configured Validation Server.

  3. Select Yes to enable syslog.

  4. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for VIP EG Console Events

  1. Open the VIP Enterprise Gateway tab.

  2. Select Optional.

  3. Select Console Setting.

  4. Select Yes to enable syslog.

  5. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for Self Service Portal Events

  1. Open the Self Service Portal tab.

  2. Edit configured Self Service Portal.

  3. Select Yes to enable syslog.

  4. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for VIP Manager Events

  1. Open the VIP Manager tab.

  2. Edit configured VIP Manager.

  3. Select Yes to enable syslog.

  4. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for LDAP Sync Events

  1. Open the LDAP Sync tab.

  2. Edit configured LDAP Sync.

  3. Select Yes to enable syslog.

  4. Click Submit to save the settings.

Device Configuration for Symantec VIP Version 9.4 Onwards

VIP device should be configured by following the steps mentioned in the below section:

Specify a Remote Syslog Server

  1. Navigate to VIP Enterprise Gateway > Logs > Syslog Configuration.

  2. Enter the IP address, port, and facility of the remote syslog server.

  3. Click Save.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for Validation Events

  1. Open the VIP Enterprise Gateway console.

  2. Click the Validation tab.

  3. Edit Configured Validation Server.

  4. Select Yes to enable syslog.

  5. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for VIP EG Console Events

1. Open the VIP Enterprise Gateway console.

2. Click the Settings tab.

3. Select Console Setting.

4. Enter the Port number.

5. Select Logging Level and Log Rotation Level.

6. Select Yes to Enable Syslog.

7. Select the Protocol to be used.

8. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for Self Service Portal Events

1. Open the VIP Enterprise Gateway console.

2. Click the Identity Providers tab.

3. Open the Self Service Portal tab.

4. Edit Configured Self Service Portal.

5. Select Yes to Enable Syslog.

6. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for VIP Manager Events

1. Open the VIP Enterprise Gateway console.

2. Click the Identity Providers tab.

3. Open the VIP Manager tab.

4. Edit Configured VIP Manager.

5. Select Yes to Enable Syslog.

6. Click Submit to save the settings.

Enable Logs Forwarding to Syslog for LDAP Sync Events

1. Open the VIP Enterprise Gateway console.

2. Click the User Store tab.

3. Open the LDAP Sync tab.

4. Edit configured LDAP Sync.

5. Select Yes to Enable Syslog.

6. Click Submit to save the settings.

Default protocol for syslog events. The LCP can also accept logs in TCP.

Note: While TCP offers guaranteed delivery of log packets, it places a larger overhead on the LCP.

To balance TCP for reliability over UDP for speed/simplicity, contact the MSS onboarding team.

Logging device IP address mentioned in the Pre-Installation Questionnaire (PIQ).

Note: If the device sends logs using multiple interfaces, contact the Accenture Security MSS onboarding team.

 The default port for syslog. For TCP, the default port is 601.

Note: The LCP can be configured to listen on a non-standard port, please advise the MSS onboarding team if this is a requirement.
